receipt sky
receipt + scanner UI for sky. Prototyped for submission to Graze Grants.
from sky:
In March, one week after qr show, I realized that the mechanism(s) I'd built for the receipt loom would be particularly well-suited for a receipt interface for Bluesky (which, like Twitter before it, can arguably be considered a loom in its own right).
Concept
receipt-sky is a paper/screenless/two-handed interface for Bluesky.
It extends code initially written for receipt loom with support for the following core interactions:
- print sheets representing atproto objects (with current support for profiles / feeds / lists / starter packs).
- scan the QR codes on the sheets with a barcode scanner to interact with them.
- scan codes on the output posts to "open"/print them + their replies.
- change modes using a "mode sheet" to print post(/feed/list/pack) authors' profiles (and posts therein) on scan of any code.
The result is a certain sort of interactive sandbox, navigated by hand + scanner.
Like the receipt loom, cards/outputs can be arranged spatially, e.g.,:
- spread out on a table
- handed out to a group
- held in-hand, individually or in a stack
- rolled or folded up → put away in a bag, pocket, folder, etc.
Updates
Omar Rizwan shared some thoughts on the interface following a demo I gave @ Side Project Saturday:
I started working on image support at the ATProto Hack Day (held in Brooklyn on August 22nd, 2025). The first successful image-embed took place the following day:
Showcase
I attached this video to the Graze Grant application (I was recovering from a cold at the time of filming):
The first ~minute overlays screenshots of sky CLI output corresponding to receipts held/touched by me at any given time.
